EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Sensing and Measurement

Sensing and measurement have revolutionised areas as diverse as transport, biomedicine, agriculture and environmental monitoring, creating a global demand for cross-disciplinary researchers in this field.

The CDT-ISM brings together world-leading academics to deliver a multi-disciplinary programme that develops the leaders of tomorrow and promotes innovation in sensing research.

University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh

You will be immersed in the world-leading, multi-disciplinary sensor research communities of two of the UK’s foremost universities.

We offer placements with partners such as the Fraunhofer and Max Planck Institutes in Germany and leading universities including Twente, Tokyo, Caltech and Stanford. (Awarded competitively.)

I love technology, be it as simple as a 3D printer and a laser cutter or as complex as a single-pixel camera or an electron microscope. The CDT-ISM gave me the opportunity to come into direct contact with these technologies and many more, under the expert supervision of world-leading experts. Every day is revelatory, knowledge keeps pouring in, and I am looking forward to the next experiment!
